How To Make DIY Custom Face Masks

I have always been someone who enjoys a good craft. Lately, I have really been enjoying the process of customizing face masks! They’re super functional, and I love designing the perfect personal touch. Today I will lost out the steps to create your own, as well as all of the supplies that you’ll need!

Materials needed

  1. Plain Face Masks (I got mine from Amazon)

  2. Avery light fabric transfer paper

  3. An iron and ironing board

  4. Access to an inkjet printer

  5. Scissors

How to make them

1. Design your template and print it using the instructions on the Avery Transfer packaging

Whether you decide to do it through your design interface (I used Canva) it is important that you flip your design before printing it. The packaging for the transfer paper has instructions how to use their interface to ensure successful printing, and I would definitely recommend going that route. You will want the design to appear backwards on the paper since they will be ironed on face-down. If it reads normally on paper, it will appear backwards on your mask!

2. Cut out the section(s) that you would like to iron on

Try to eliminate as much background paper as possible when cutting to make the placement and ironing processes easier. To endure that your design is the right size, you may want to consider printing it out on regular paper to test.

3. Lay design face down in desired spot on your mask and apply heat

Once your item is placed how you wanted on your mask, apply hear with your iron. I set mine to level 6 (medium heat) and it took about 2 minutes for the design to transfer completely. Make sure to keep the iron moving while applying heat to avoid burning The mask and/or the paper!

4. Peel off paper

You will want to be very gentile in this step. Every garment and iron varies, so you may need more than 2 minutes of heat to ensure that the design stays. Start by peeling up a corner and removing the paper slowly so that it will be easy to put it back if more heat is needed.

5. You’re all set!

And just like that, you’ve got your finished product! The design stays on super well (even when washed) and the whole process only takes about 10 minutes!
