When I first saw this look On Etsy a while back, I was instantly enamored with the balance of edgy and posh that is achieved when a Louis Vuitton lock is added to your average layered necklace look. Today, I will list out the steps to follow as well as all of the materials that you will need to make your own chic Louis Vuitton layered lock and key necklace!
What you’ll need
A simple set of gold-plated necklaces for layering — I got mine from Amazon
A vintage Louis Vuitton lock and key set — I got mine from Tradesy, but Etsy also has a bunch!
Brasso metal cleaner
How to do it
Lay out your supplies and decide which layers will hold the lock and key
Take a moment to lay out the elements of your necklace (as well as your supplies so they are easily within reach) and decide how you want the end result to look.
Apply Brasso to your vintage lock and key combo
Brasso is hands down the best metal cleaner that I’ve tried. It cuts deep to eliminate tarnish from brass pieces, and leaves them looking just like new. You can apply the cleaner using a towel, or you may choose to scrub extra tarnished, small areas with a q-tip. Don’t give up on those extra tarnished areas - keep applying pressure and more Brasso, and it will work given some time!
Wipe off excess Brasso using a towel, and wash them down
Brasso is super powerful, but it’s important to remember that the chemicals that make it work so well may irritate your skin. Wipe off visible excess cleaner with a towel, and use a wet paper towel and/or a magic eraser to wipe off the less visible excess cleaner.
Add hour lock and key to your necklaces and enjoy the finished result!
There you have it - a chic and affordable designer accessory! I was super happy with how mine turned out, and I’m sure that you will be too. If you would like to grab the exact pieces/supplies that I used, you can find them by simply clicking any of the photos included in this post! Happy crafting!
