Lately, I have been noticing a lot of new faces reaching out and interacting with me on Instagram. One of my favorite things about the community that I have found in style blogging is the overwhelming amount of support and acceptance. I want to allow people in this community to get to know me better, so today I wanted to follow up on my introduction and original '5 Things That You May Not Know About Me' posts by listing out 5 more interesting facts about me!
I love beaches, but I'm terrified of deep water
Thalassophobia is a very commonly felt, intense fear of the sea. I get very uncomfortable with being in large bodies of water and thinking about what could be lurking outside of my field of vision. With that being said, though, I will never turn down a beach vacation with a view of the water. As long as I don't wade too far into the tide, I really enjoy an opportunity to lay out and dip my toes in the water.
My dream retirement would involve me owning and operating a horse sanctuary
While I was growing up I took part in a ton of extracurricular activities, but riding dressage was definitely one of my favorites. In the course of learning how to ride confidently in an arena, I learned ow to handle and understand horses. Many people are afraid of horses due to their size, but they are sweet, loving, smart animals deep down. I have been very fortunate to have had multiple opportunities to form strong bonds with different horses throughout my life so far, and I would absolutely love to continue doing so when I decide it is time to hang up my blazer and live a more quiet life.
I think that true crime is super interesting
While it is a topic that is honestly really dark and terrifying, I am a total sucker for true crime documentaries, TV shoes, and podcasts. I think that behavioral psychology is really interesting, so watching/listening to things that analyze the potential inner workings of the brains of serial killers really gets me feeling fascinated. If you also love true crime, I would suggest the 'My Favorite Murder' podcast on Spotify, and the show 'Mindhunter' on Netflix!
I have extremely bad circulation in my fingers and toes
My hands and feet are generally cold due to the lack of circulation, but when I am out in cold weather (or even sitting in a cold office space) my fingertips and toes will sometimes turn purple. While it definitely looks concerning, it is actually a rare yet not especially problematic condition called Raynaud's Syndrome. For the most part it just increases your risk of frostbite when out in the cold, and a topic of panicked conversation for those that first catch sight of your purple hands.
I have a knack for picking out watermelon at the grocery store
Whenever my family (and now my fiance's family) wants a watermelon during the summer months, I am the go-to person to go and grab them. The truth is, though, there are telltale signs that a watermelon will or will not be delicious that can be easily identified if you know where to look. When choosing a watermelon, I always look for the ones with large, bright yellow spots. While these are not the most beautiful of the bunch, the yellow spot indicates ripeness since the yellow area is the spot that had contact with the ground before it was harvested. The more pronounced the yellow spot is, the longer it stayed out in the field. You also want your watermelon to sound hollow when you knock on it for a satisfying, crunchy texture.
I hope that you have enjoyed these little tidbits about me! I love learning more about the people that I interact with in the style blogging community, so I am excited to share some details about my life with all of you.
